Personality & Traits

General Overview In recent years she has become increasingly quiet and withdrawn, most find it hard to get any real information from her. She carries herself with a distant gaze and often when speaking to others it is clear her mind is elsewhere. When no one knows what troubles her so, though most think it is in some way related to her father, a subject she only speaks to a few about.

It is said that at one time she was a passionate creature of sublime beauty and even so much as a word from her lips could make the burdens on any man's shoulders feel infinitely lighter. In recent times a look from her seems to do the exact opposite. What has changed in her is hard to place, though when once she was like a sun-soaked summer evening, now she is like the cold stillness of a winter morning.
Hobbies & Interests Most often seen in the small solarium with her plants and her books, Amalthea does little by way of socializing and prefers to be alone, only close to a single member of her court. Some days she is not even seen on the castle grounds and only rumor tells of her location.

Personal History The only child of the Elven Lord Ambrose, Lord of the Northern Sea, Amalthea was born after the world froze. Though those who knew of it would have sworn that as a child she had been born in the time of summer.

As with all members of her family she was born in the family temple to Aura, the Goddess of Dreams and Growth, a small temple near the cliffs overlooking the Sea of Shards. And it was in that temple, by the light of the first full moon after her birth given the name Amalthea.

While still an infant her mother fell victim to the Death Sleep, an ancient curse that causes one to fall into a magical death-like sleep. Even the best healers of the land at the time could not heal here and though her life was extended years in the deep sleep, so slow her bodily functions were, but time claimed her in the end and around the time she began lessons as a child, her mother passed silently from a death-like sleep to the sleep that was death.

To be free of her father's grief she was sent to live with kin in the Northern Forest. Here she would walk among the trees and explore ancient and long-forgotten Elven roads. She would often encounter rangers and the folk of the deep wood, going about their lives. Being a High Elf she was a beautiful creature even as a child and though some would contemplate claiming her beauty as their own, none would dare do so.

She would grow into womanhood among the towering trees that blocked the wind and thus kept things much warmer. Unlike the Southern Wood, the Northern Forest was more spread out, and thus the snow and sun filtered through the trees. The cold seemed to harden her soft features, giving her the permanent appearance of youth on a cold morning. She would seldom smile, but it was said in those days that she had a smile that as like dawn from before the world froze.

When she returned home as a woman, hundreds of years into her life, she found her father and isolated and cold man. She attempted to reach out to him and in time he did open up and tell her a great deal, but when he did a strange sadness claimed her.

For years she served by her father in his court, though matters of the court were of little concern to her. The day to day managing of food and livestock meant very little and it seemed that even her father knew that his staff knew their jobs and there was no need to worry. The estate, though quite large, was not overly hard to manage with the staff they had.

In this time she claimed a small solarium as her own and began to grow plants from seeds she had discovered in the depths of her family archive. Somehow the seeds found life and under her careful touch they sprouted into lively plants, most the world had not seen since before the snow first came. It seemed the only place her sadness did not cling to her like a heavy damp robe, was in her garden. Surrounded by her plants she took on an even more ethereal appearance, seeming to give off a light of her own.

It was during this time she also began sending for manuscripts and books from all over, reading the stories of many races and peoples. She would request each book she found to be reproduced for her own private library before it was returned from where it came from. Over time her personal library would grow and grow, taking on a reputation for containing many rare books that the original was lost to time. There one could easily find a lost tome of dwarven love poetry or a report from the first who encountered the Dark Elves and traded with them. Ancient texts from before the time of snow and even a few fragments of text from the time before the summer, texts dating back tens of thousands of years.

Though the family estate was closed off to the outside world, it's location near a major trade route and the rumors of her beauty meant that there were many a brave soul who would sneak close to the house in hopes of catching a look at her. She would make no attempt to hide herself and few would have any nerve to come close, indeed only one would come close to her and his story is one for the history books, but few will ever know of it and she speaks little of it. What is known is that he was not of Elfkin and he lived the remainder of his years with her in secrecy in one of the small cottages on the estate. And as a result, she had twin daughters, who like her were born in the family temple and named on that first moonrise, Lushian, and Kashian. Though their appearance and height did open speculation, few would openly discuss their father.

Years would pass and the only ones who were ever close to the Lady Amalthea were her daughters and a few select staff. And then two years ago the Lord Ambrose did not take his throne in the great hall. He continued to not take his throne and Amalthea did not speak of it, instead, she simply began to organize the day to day operation of the estate.

In her father's absence, a child was discovered in the wilderness and after healing and restoring the child, she was made a woman and adopted into the Lyrius family, renamed by Miali to Amborsae Lyrius, becoming the youngest child of Amalthea in all but blood.

A year ago she had every cottage refurbished and prepared. There were rumors as to what she was preparing for and as the cottages were made new again she announced that she would be opening her estate to the outside and welcoming travelers, expressing great interest in wise men and magi from distant lands. Her motives remain unknown, but for the past six months, she has welcomed many guests into her home and spoken in hushed whispers to any with magical skill.
