Human
The Humans of Indra are in most respects identical to humans found anywhere or anywhen else. If you are familiar with modern examples of humanity, then you already have a good basis for role-playing a human. If any trait defines the Human in the world of Indra it is their adaptability. Humans have bred with and had war with almost every other race and as a result it is hard to peg them as any one thing. Culturally they are far from homogeneous in anyway and most Humans prefer to be looked at as individuals instead of a member of the race as a while.
Elf
A race of beautiful humanoids, often referred to as an elder race, possibly a branch of faery, elves are associated with forests, have a natural affinity for magic, and have life-spans far longer than humans. Elves can be aloof and distant or flighty and seemingly carefree, and they may consider other races to be their inferiors. There are three main types of Elf in Indra, Hylian, Sylvan, and Dark.
Hylian Elves, or High Elves, are the longest lived, tending toward being ten times the normal lifespan of a Human. They are taller and more elegant, taking their time to build ornate cities and mystical artifacts.
Sylvan Elves, or Wood Elves, live almost entirely within the bounds of the Southern Woods. They are far wilder and more in tune with nature than any other race, weaving the homes and their clothing as it grows. The tend to be more aggressive, but also will run from a fight before making a point to stand their ground.
Dark Elves live in the vast caves of the Iron and Red Mountain ranges. Most have never seen the light of the sun and would prefer to keep it that way. Very little is known about their culture and lifestyle as no outsiders are permitted within the sacred tunnels of the Dark Elves.
Dwarf
Stalwart, short, stocky humanoids, with long beards and dour personalities, dwarves are longer-lived than men. Dwarves are excellent metal and stone workers, renowned as fighters, and are often found living in underground cities. Dwarves can be gruff, grumpy, gloomy or rowdy, and often trust none but themselves.Unlike Elves, Dwarvish biology is more dependent upon the location they call home than the blood in their viens. The two main types of Dwarf are the Dwarves of the Iron Mountains and the Dwarves of the Deep Salt Caverns.
The Dwarves of the Iron Mountain, stout and hardy dwarves to cut deep into the stone mountain, finding ancient springs ripe with magic. They have master the art of crafting with stone and metal to such a degree all that leaves their craftsmen's hands is imbued with some kind of harnessed magic.
The Dwarves of the Deep Salt Caverns, thin and pale creatures who are sustained by the deep magics of the dark. Little is known of them and their ways, those who go to seek them often find only rumors and whispers in the dark. What is known is that somehow they have tapped into the deep magic and it has claimed them.
Halfling
Barely waist-high on humans, this is a pleasant race of one time sturdy farmers and shopkeepers who feel more comfortable with their furry feet propped up in front of a fireplace than anywhere else.Long ago, when the ancient pastures and farmlands of the Halflings froze these hardy people divided into two groups. Some would make for the deep magics of the Misty Valley and some would learn to live in the large cities of many races. Over time there began to be clear differences between those who embraced that deep magic and those who learned to live among the big people.
The Halflings of the Misty Valley are perhaps closer to the race they once were. Still stout and childlike in appearance they maintain a playful joy to all part so of their lives. They have long mastered the art of disappearing into the woods when big folk come around and some view them now as only myth.
The Halflings that went to the cities are the more commonly seen type. Developing a world and culture of their own it is not uncommon to find them running their businesses in the dark and dingy corners, taking up little space. Highly organized and quick on their feet they have made a living delivering much and with skilled small hands their craftsmanship has earned a great deal of praise.
